Pakistani Christian meeting to end blasphemy law

Rawalpindi: October 23, 2009. (PCP) delegates of leading social, religious and political groups representing 20 million Christians in Pakistan are attending a milestone moot to discus strategy to repeal controversial blasphemy will gather here in “All Christian Parties Conference” hosted by Pakistan Christian Congress PCC, on October 25, 2009.

The said conference was called by PCC in Lahore, Islamabad and Karachi on October 24, 2009, but after threats to Pakistan Christian Congress leaders by Islamic militants and procession by a Muslims religious group in Karachi, the venues of Karachi and Lahore were postponed and Rawalpindi/Islamabad meeting was signaled to go ahead by advisor to PCC chief in Pakistan.

The Pakistan Masihi League will co-host the “All Christian Parties Conference” with PCC and President of PML Professor Salamat Akhtar will preside the meeting.

Dr. Nazir S Bhatti, President of Pakistan Christian Congress PCC will be Chief Guest at All Christian Parties Conference while Christian Scholar Mehboob Sada, Director of Christian Study Center will be guest of honor.

The leading Christian parties MYM, HRCF, CURVE, CYF and clergy of Church of Pakistan and Catholic Church in Pakistan will also speak on this occasion.

Due to security situation in Pakistan, all delegates of other groups are requested to register there names. The liberal Islamic groups are also participating in conference.

Nazir S Bhatti, President of Pakistan Christian Congress PCC have urged Rawalpindi administration to provide adequate security to venue of conference and delegates traveling from Karachi, Hyderabad, Peshawar, Lahore, Faisabad, Gujranwala and other districts of Pakistan.
